Electronic patient record (EPR) systems have the potential to bring
huge benefits to patients as well as clinicians and are being implemented in medical
environments throughout the UK.
Storing and sharing health information electronically can speed up clinical communication,
reduce the number of errors, and assist doctors in diagnosis and treatment. Patients
can also have more control over their own healthcare. Electronic data also has vast
potential to improve the quality of healthcare audit and research.
Benefits of Electronic Patient Records in Brief:
- Reduction in transcription errors
- Patient information available whenever needed
- Multiple "bedside PCs" equals savings of clinician time
- Real time transactions result in earlier patient discharges/reduced patient episodes
- Enhancement of the patient experience via involvement in care plan and ability to
view records and x-rays at the bedside
ErgoMounts are experienced in providing small footprint, ergonomically
designed workstation solutions to allow clinicians to access EPR's in both sitting
and standing operations. Our range of combination LCD monitor and keyboard arms
can be combined with a wall or pole mounted CPU holder to further
reduce the physical footprint required to accommodate an EPR workstation.
Ergonomic wall mounted laptop supports are also available.
The Elite (EMEL5220WMQ1-0-3) combination monitor and keyboard arm shown here has
been installed into a high dependency ward within a major UK hospital.
Each clinician
has been provided with the means to set the monitor and keyboard to their correct
, comfortable working position while both sitting and standing. Movement is via
two gas assisted cylinders which allows the user to reposition the arm time and
time again without the need to adjust any levers or knobs.
Ergonomist Dr Paul Wadsworth states:
"if workstation adjustments are not easy and intuitive, the user will not utilise
the feature".
The Elite series allows for quick and simple user adjustment without the need for
in depth engineering expertise or reverting to long instruction manuals.
The Elite T-Rex (EMELR5220-WT-KRXB-QG) combination monitor and keyboard arm shown
here was positioned in a confined area where medical staff did not originally believe
there was room to integrate an EPR system workstation.
The Elite monitor and keyboard
arm allowed both monitor and keyboard to be attached to the wall above a wash basin
and lowered by the clinician when required.
Even though the wall mount was positioned
relatively high on the wall the mount still allowed operators to adjust the height
of both monitor and keyboard to both seated and standing operations.
The Elite T-Rex monitor arm shown below installed in a new build hospital implementing
EPR from day one.
A & E departments can also benefit from the space saving Ultra 390 computer
workstation. EPR systems can be wall mounted with a zero physical floor footprint
whilst retaining ergonomic height and reach adjustment. The system can be combined
with a wall mount Ultra series CPU holder to create an all–in-one wall mounted computer
workstation.
